Five Democratic Presidential Candidates Speak at Cal State LA

A five-candidate forum on topics concerning the Latino community was held Sunday at Cal State Los Angeles, one day after a similar event at the California Democratic Party's Fall Endorsing Convention.

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg; former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro; California Sen. Kamala Harris; Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders; and former hedge fund manager Tom Steyer participated in the late-morning forum, which covered topics including immigration, health care, jobs, economic security and education.

The five participants in Sunday's forum were joined by New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and entrepreneur Andrew Yang at a forum Saturday at Long Beach Arena.

Two of the leading candidates for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, Former Vice President Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, did not attend the Southland events. Warren cited a scheduling conflict. Biden attended a fundraiser in Portland on Saturday and an evening town hall meeting in Las Vegas.
