1 Dead, 4 Injured in South LA Crash

Two cars collided before sliding down the street and hitting a pedestrian.

One man died and four others were critically injured in a multiple vehicle crash Sunday morning in South Los Angeles.

The accident occurred just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Compton and Gage avenues when a black Toyota Suv and a silver Kia collided and struck a pedestrian, according to the California Highway patrol.

The Toyota was attempting a left turn and the Kia was driving southbound on Compton Avenue when the two cars crashed and slid together to the opposite side of the street, hitting the pedestrian before slamming into a concrete wall.

The 28-year-old Kia driver died at the scene while the three people in the SUV, along with the pedestrian, were taken to a trauma center.

Officers will review surveillance video from nearby businesses, but it remains unclear who was at fault for the accident, since both drivers were technically following the law when they collided, the CHP said.
