Deputies began pursuing the driver after locating him Friday in the Thousand Oaks area. At about 1 p.m., the driver of the two-door Honda Civic was eastbound on the 101 Freeway in the west San Fernando Valley. At least one Ventura County Sheriff's Department sport utility vehicle followed the car through Encino, Van Nuys and Studio City before the driver exited at Vineland Avenue and headed north into the North Hollywood area.

The driver pulled into a parking area at The Gallery apartments in North Hollywood, where deputies with guns drawn ordered him out of the car. The man remained in the car for about 10 minutes before he surrendered.
