Geyser Slows 101 Freeway Drive in Cahuenga Pass

Traffic backed up in the area as crews worked to turn off the hydrant

A tower of water from a damaged hydrant slowed the drive through the Universal City area Tuesday morning.

Crews shut off the water flow at 9:50 a.m., but the geyser prompted a closure on Cahuenga Boulevard and led to a backup on the southbound 101 Freeway (map). The report was received at about 8:45 a.m.

Firefighters and Department of Water and Power crews responded to the location. There were no reports of injuries or damage to nearby buildings, according to the LA City Fire Department.

It was not immediately clear how the hydrant was damaged. No vehicle crashes were reported at the location, according to police.

Customers might have experienced lower water pressure in the area, according to LADWP.
