Hitchhikers Stab Driver: Cops

Driver tells police he was stabbed in the stomach by a man and a woman who he picked up in Arizona

A man and woman were taken into custody on Saturday in connection with the stabbing of a driver in his mid 30s who said he picked up the duo as they hitchhiked from Arizona to LA.

Deputies were sent around 11:15 p.m. Friday to an IHOP restaurant in the 3500 block of Rosemead Boulevard in Temple City, where the man, who suffered two wounds to the stomach area, had driven himself, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ynette O'Brien.

He said one of the two stabbed him at the Temple City Boulevard exit from the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, O'Brien said.

The man was taken to a hospital, but O'Brien did not know his condition.

The man and woman were taken into custody shortly after midnight on a side street off the freeway and have admitted to being in the car with the victim, O'Brien said.

She did not know if a weapon had been recovered. O'Brien described the man and woman as transient types. Their ages were not immediately available.
