$20,000 Reward Offered to Find Killer of East LA College Basketball Player

Former Chicago high school basketball standout Saieed Stecoo Ivey was shot and killed June 9, just hours after he turned 20 years old

Rewards adding up to $20,000 were offered Thursday for information in the shooting death of an East Los Angeles College basketball player just hours after he turned 20.

The rewards were announced Thursday morning at the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau in Monterey Park, where family members of Saieed Stecoo Ivey spoke during a news conference.

"It's been a couple years, but it still feels like yesterday to me," mother Chareda Carter said Thursday. "It's a cut I don't think I'll ever be able to heal from."

Ivey was shot to death on June 9, 2016 at about 4:30 a.m. as he sat in his vehicle in the parking lot of his apartment complex in the 800 block of El Repetto Drive in Monterey Park.

Ivey was a Chicago high school basketball standout. He previously played at Governor's State University in the south suburbs of Chicago. The university released a statement, saying he was "well-loved" at the campus.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward and a second $10,000 reward was sponsored by Ivey's family and friends. Each reward is offered in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible for Ivey's death.
