Two small earthquakes strike Bell within hours

The earthquakes occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Two small earthquakes shook the Bell area between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The first, of magnitude 3.0, occurred around 9:41 p.m., with a depth of 13 kilometers, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

A dispatcher for the Bell Police Department said the department had not received any calls about property damage or injuries.

A USGS map indicated that the quake was felt as far north as the San Fernando Valley and as far south as Orange County.

The second earthquake, of 2.7 magnitude, struck Wednesday at 4:37 a.m., according to the USGS.

The center of the quake was located 1.1 miles southwest of Bell and 1.2 miles east of Walnut Park, with a depth of 9 miles.

It was centered 1.2 miles northeast of South Gate and 1.3 miles northwest of Cudahy.
