3 Arrested in Connection With Fatal Stabbing of Hemet Teen

The suspects ages 20, 17 and 15 are accused of attacking the teen late Monday afternoon.

A man and two teen boys were arrested Thursday in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old boy in Hemet earlier this week, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Francisco Zavala, 20, and a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old whose names were not released because of their age are in custody in connection with the deadly Jan. 14 attack on Eric Sargeant Jr., the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

All of the suspects are residents of Hemet.

Witnesses told authorities that three or four people stabbed Sargeant Jr. late Monday afternoon. He was flown to Riverside County Regional Medical Center where he died about five hours after the attack.

Zavala's bail has been set at $1 million. The teens were booked into Juvenile Hall.

Information about the case can be provided to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Central Homicide Unit at 760-393-3500.
