3 Dead, 3 Injured in Head-On Collision in Hemet

Three people died and three more were injured in a head-on collision early Sunday morning in Hemet, officials said.

At around 1:35 a.m. authorities responded to a crash near Florida Avenue and Lake Street and found two vehicles in westbound lanes, according to Hemet Police Department.

Three passengers of a silver Ford sedan died at the scene and one passenger was taken to the hospital and was expected to survive, authorities said. Two passengers of a black GMC SUV were transported to local hospitals and were expected to survive.

The silver Ford was driving east on Florida Avenue at high speeds, according to the City of Hemet Collision Investigation Team. The black GMC was driving westbound on Florida Avenue at approximately 40 mph, and for unknown reasons, the silver Ford swerved into the westbound lanes hitting the GMC in a head-on collision.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, police said. The names of those involved were being withheld pending coroner notification, officials said.
