3 Die, Including 12-Year-Old Girl, in Freeway Wreck

The crash happened after midnight Saturday on a stretch of freeway through Pasadena

Two women and a 12-year-old girl died early Saturday when the minivan they were in hit a concrete wall and flipped, ejecting some of the van's occupants on a Southern California freeway.

Abigail Romero, 19; Abigail Estrella, 37; and Katie Davila, 12, from Lancaster, were killed in the crash reported after midnight on the Arroyo Seco (110) Parkway northbound connector to the Golden State (5) Freeway, Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials said.

Four other people -- two men and a boy and girl -- were critically injured in the crash.

At least four of the people in the van were ejected as it slid down the transition road after it smashed into a concrete wall.

The crash happened at a sharp “left exit” turn with a posted speed limit of 25 mph from Route 110 towards Interstate 5, just north of the northernmost tunnel.

The turnoff was originally built as T-shaped intersection between Figueroa Street and Riverside Drive in 1931, according to Caltrans records.
