History will be just 400m away for Allyson Felix Monday evening when she enters the blocks to compete for her seventh Olympic medal.
Also Monday, gymnast Simone Biles was back in the spotlight, Ventura's Phil Dalhauser and teammate Nick Lucena faced the hosts in beach volleyball and a Southern California-laden women's water polo team claimed a convicing win in the quarterfinals.

1. Felix Makes Run at History
Allyson Felix goes after her seventh Olympic medal when she competes Monday in the 400m dash final. A win means she would stand alone as the most decorated woman in track and field history.

The sprinter from Los Angeles, who now lives in Santa Clarita, has six career Olympic medals, tying her for the most medals for anyone from USC. The 30-year-old, a member of President Obama’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, graduated from USC with a degree in elementary education.
At 18, Felix made her Olympics debut in Athens, claiming silver in the 200m. In Beijing, she captured another silver in the 200 before finally breaking through with a gold in the event in London. She also won gold in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays in 2012 to become the first female U.S. athlete since 1988 to win three gold medals at a single Olympics.
If Felix fails to medal, she'll likely have another shot at a medal in the relays.

2. Biles' Balancing Act
Simone Biles was in pursuit of her fourth gold medal in Rio when the two-time world champion took to the balance beam in the individual event final. She had to settle for bronze after a near fall.
Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands grabbed gold and Biles' USA teammate, Laurie Hernadez, scored a silver.
Biles will compete on the floor exercise along with Aly Raisman on Tuesday.

3. USA, Brazil Clash at Copacabana
Ventura's two-time Olympian Phil Dalhausser and teammate Nick Lucena dropped a quarterfinal match at Copacabana against Brazil. The Americans were rarely challenged in pool play, finishing the group undefeated, but failed to mount much of an attack against the hosts.

4. Another USA v Brazil Brouhaha
The defending champion U.S. women's water polo team defeated Brazil 13-3 Monday to advance to the semifinals.
The U.S. team includes Bruins KK Clark, Rachel Fattal, of Seal Beach, Sami Hill, of Santa Barbara, Courtney Mathewson, of Orange, Maddie Musselman, of Newport Beach. They’ll set the crosstown rivalry aside and join USC’s Kami Craig, of Santa Barbara, and Kaleigh Gilchrist, of Newport Beach.
The U.S. entered the tournament as the top seed and rocketed to a 3-0 start. A win sets up the USA for a semifinal match-up Wednesday against the winner of Hungary and Australia.
