Missing 5-Month-Old Found, Mom in Custody

A missing 5-month-old boy was found in good condition after being reported missing on Thursday, and his mother was in custody, police said.

Trevor Barajas was seen with his mother on Dec. 1 at a group home in the 100 block of North Occidental Boulevard in the Westlake District, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

His mother, 15, left the group home with Trevor, but she returned Thursday without him. She was taken into custody before Trevor was found in good condition, officials said.

Police told NBC4 the boy's mother left him with a female friend. The boy was taken to the police station Thursday evening.

"We pressured the person to return the baby or there would be some consequences and fortunately the baby was returned at Hollenbeck Station," said LAPD spokeswoman Edna Lopez. "It could've ended in a more tragic way. It's happened before, we've seen it, we've heard about it, and I'm happy to say this was not one of those instances."

Department of Children and Family Services will determine whether the boy will be reunited with his mother or if he will go into social services.
