500,000+ Revelers Expected at Fiesta Broadway

One of downtown's biggest parties to draw thousands.

Fiesta Broadway, which is set for Sunday, April 25, is billed as "the largest Latino event in the nation's largest Latino market"; "largest" is definitely a fine description here. After all, a half million revelers, by Fiesta estimates, join the 24-square-block party every year.

Of course, Broadway is the center of the day, and music is the heart of Fiesta.  The year's fiesta, which is free to the public, will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It covers 24 square city blocks and features entertainers that include Latin Grammy winners Ana Barbara and Alicia Villareal as well as Los Caminantes and King Coya.

We pause now to think of the enormity of 24 square downtown blocks. "Largest" for sure.

Fiesta Broadway turns 21 this year, and is an early celebration of Cinco de Mayo. As might be expected with a festival expecting 500,000 attendees, there is food, lots of it, and games, and booths, and other festive to-dos. Several companies like McDonald's and Albertson's will have "supersites" on location.

Also, there's a new party perimeter for 2010; check it out before you head downtown.

All streets are expected to remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday.
