55-Hour Street Closure Planned Over Weekend in Heart of Downtown LA

Several streets in the heart of downtown Los Angeles will be closed for a 55-hour period as crews perform work on Metro Gold Line updates this weekend.

First and Alameda streets will be closed starting Friday night, as transportation workers conduct preparatory work for the construction of the Regional Connector Tunnel and work on the relocation of Metro Gold Line track and utilities, according to Metro.

The 1st Street closure will extend from Central Avenue to Vignes Street. Alameda Street will be closed from Temple Street to 3rd Street.

Businesses, residents and emergency responders will be granted access by a construction crew on site at Temple and Alameda Streets, 1st and Vignes streets, 1st and Hewitt streets and 2nd St. and Alameda streets.

The closure will start at 9 p.m. Friday and end at 4 a.m. Monday.

Additional weekend closures are scheduled to take place on Friday, Feb. 5 starting at 9 p.m., when a 55-hour weekend closure of 1st and Alameda streets will be in effect to install concrete barriers and reconfigure traffic lanes, Metro said.
