Driving Instuctor Accused of Sexually Assaulting Student

A neighboring business owner told NBC4 he "was very surprised" to learn of the instructor's arrest

A 70-year-old driving and traffic school instructor in Los Angeles was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery after a student accused him of sex crimes.

Jorge Ernesto Ubillus was arrested Monday after allegations of sexual battery between July and mid-August. The female student claimed the crimes occurred when Ubillus was teaching her to drive and at his office in the 5400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard.

Police confirmed they are investigating the student's claims and attempting to determine whether there are additional accusers.

Ubillus declined to speak with NBC4 on camera when he arrived for work Wednesday morning, but said the accuser is an adult. He also said he is in the process of hiring a defense attorney.

According to Ubillus' LinkedIn profile, he has been a manager at Prudential Driving & Traffic School since 1983. A neighboring business owner told NBC4 he saw Ubillus being taken into custody.

"I can't believe that because I know him for many years," said Augustine Alomia. "He's a gentleman. I was very surprised."

Ubillus was released Monday evening on $30,000 bail.
