Vehicle Hits Caltrans Worker on 710 Freeway

Crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on freeway near Rosecrans Avenue

Five people were transported to a local hospital with major injuries after a collision on the northbound 710 Freeway in Paramount where a vehicle crashed into a Caltrans worker, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 2006 Freighliner clipped the back of a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass while trying to merge. That sent the Freighliner spinning out of control and into the rear of a Caltrans vehicle parked at the gore point, according to a collision report.

A worker, identified only as a 30-year-old woman, was standing behind the vehicle and sustained major injuries, according to CHP.

The Freighliner driver was the only person involved in the collision that did not sustain injuries, according to the collision report. Two women, aged 20 and 40, the 25-year-old male driver and a 3-year-old boy in the Cutlass were transported with major injuries.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on the freeway near the Rosecrans Avenue exit.

A Sigalert was issued for the area, and traffic was snarled to the 91 Freeway hours after the collision.
