Summer temperatures are rising in Los Angeles, but the spirit of Christmas is alive thanks to the Shriners for Children Medical Center, a children’s hospital that hopes to provide a little sunshine to patients and families during potentially hard times.
More than 700 gifts were collected last weekend during the Christmas in July Annual Toy Drive and Gift Distribution event, which benefits the children at the Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena.
The event, now in its fifth consecutive year, is coordinated and sponsored by the Shriners from the El Bekal Center and the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine of North America.
Santa Clause’s team of little helpers, which includes the Ladies and the Shriners, will visit the children’s hospital to deliver the toys and gifts on behalf of those who donated.
Since its opening in 1952, Shriners for Children Medical Center has provided care to children with congenital deformities associated with neuromusculoskeletal disease. The organization has care centers throughout Southern California, Southern Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona and Northern Mexico.
