Anaheim Approves Measure to Entice Sacramento Kings

The Anaheim City Council has approved a $75 million bond measure opening up the way to entice the Sacramento Kings to move south.

The Kings are considering moving to the Honda Center which currently is the home of the Ducks hockey team.

The Kings would have to undergo a name change and would likely become the Anaheim Royals.

The city of Sacramento is not happy over losing a professional sports franchise and it is not yet a done deal.

Sacramento does not have any facility equal to the Honda Center and this is why the team decided to look elsewhere.

Sacramento is also concerned that the team owners payback a $77 million dollar loan.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former professional basketball player, said Tuesday the team owners had assured him they would pay their obligation.

"We don't want a messy divorce," he said when asked about whether Sacramento would go to court over the issue.

Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait called the vote “historic.”  He said, “I am thrilled. A better word, I am stoked.”
