SOME MIGHT SAY... that a primo, must-see, don't-miss-it, grab-your-camera season for Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the springtime, and those some-sayers would be totally right. But here's the not-so-secret secret about California's largest state park: If it is a day on the calendar, and if you're currently experiencing one of the 12 months, it is a primo season for the interplanetarily haunting, sheephorn-tastic, badland-beautiful area. True, true, those summer temperatures can be fiercely three-digit-y on many days, and winter nights can be cold in an almost lunar-like way. So spring gets a lot of love, but so should all the weeks of the year, for Anza-Borrego is one of the treasures of the Golden State.
A CABOODLE OF SHUTTERBUGS... know this fact, and they've taken the time, craft, care, and talent to send images out of the spectacular region to those who adore it, via the annual Anza-Borrego Desert Photo Contest. Submissions are now closed, but what is open is this: You can review the pretty, astounding, and bewitching pictures online via the People's Choice contest. The voting is open through Jan. 26, 2018, which, you're right, is juuuuust about, give or take, when the first flowers of late winter start to make a showing in the desert, here and there. (We know, not every year is the same, but late January is an especially special time for the A-B.) So why vote in the People's Choice?
BECAUSE YOU LOVE THE ANZA-BORREGO. Because you want to lend some magic to the Anza-Borrego Foundation, a partner in the contest along with Kesling's Kitchen and Borrego Art Institute, two nifty places, for sure. Because you need a mind trip, an escapist few minutes, and some time to revel in the desert, even as holiday hubbub keeps you busy at home. Because it is a lovely landscape, full of critters and oases and sunsets and craggy features galore. Yes, you need some photos now, of the Anza-Borrego, so cast your vote and plan your next adventure out in that vast and epic space.
