August at Angel City=Avocado Ale Fest

This annual summer shindig'll feature four avocado-tastic beers plus lots of lively to-dos.

What to Know

  • Angel City Brewery
  • Aug. 3 and 4, 2019, noon to 6 p.m.
  • Live mural painting, food trucks, games

A refreshing beer has a bestie we all know, recognize, and likely adore: Something dippable, with a heap of hot 'n salty chips.

Of course, enjoying a well-made brew on its own is a time-honored ritual for those who seek out swanky suds of a hoppy, grainy nature, but plenty of quaffers choose to snack as they sip.

And, without a doubt, guacamole serves as a favorite beer-adjacent condiment.

In honor of this widely embraced fact, and because they make an actual beer with actual avocado in it, Angel City Brewery pauses each August to raise a can to its own Avocado Ale.

Not just one Avocado Ale, mind you, but a host of avocado-inspired brews, including the brewery's classic concoction, a guava and avocado beer, an avocado ale with spicy zing, and, hold onto your espresso cup, a coffee-meets-'cado creation.

Avocado coffee beer? Oh yes. We're so there, we're probably already in line. We're probably already done trying it, in the future, is how there we are, in fact.

So how to soak in all of this amazing avo-ale-ness? Be at the Arts District Brewery on Aug. 3 and 4 for its annual Avocado Fest, a party that is, yes, about the offbeat brews, but also games, rocking live music, the painting of a mural (before your eyes), and, yes, an avocado-eating contest.

Look also for several purveyors of food for purchase, and, yes, plenty of avocado-themed vittles.

And alligator pear people, be gladdened, emboldened, and ready to fruit-it-up, for real take-home avocados will be for sale at the celebration.

It's lucky year number seven for this creamy meet-up, one that pairs an iconic sip with an iconic dip, or, rather, the oblong icon at the heart of guacamole.
