Autopsy Conducted on Body Found Inside Trunk of Lexus

An autopsy has not yet revealed how a man died before being found decomposing in the trunk of a Lexus in Riverside over the weekend, police said Monday.

There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body of 33-year-old Pomona resident Miguel Angel Perez, the Pomona Police Department said. More testing was expected to be conducted by the Riverside County Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death.

On Saturday afternoon, a woman stopped at a Wal-Mart at 5200 Van Buren Blvd. in Riverside to shop after work. She noticed an odor coming from her 1999 Lexus ES 300 and opened the trunk, only to discover that Perez was inside and dead, police said.

The woman recognized Perez as an acquaintance from the Pomona neighborhood where she lives, police said.

The woman was questioned. Police said she was not considered a suspect.

Investigators could not provide an estimate as to how long Perez may have been inside the trunk. They said they believe he was in there at the time the woman drove from her home in Pomona to her workplace in Riverside.

The investigation was ongoing, police said.
