Several beach closures in Orange County were lifted Friday when authorities repaired a broken main and revised their estimates of wastewater spillage.
The city of Laguna Beach reported that necessary repairs were made to the broken force main at Ben Brown Golf Course and the raw sewage leak that began Wednesday was contained as of 12:15 p.m. Friday, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency's Environmental Health Division.
The city of Laguna Beach revised their initial estimate of 4 million gallons of wastewater spill to 1.4 million. As a result, the Orange County HCA lifted beach closures at Newport Beach, Doheny State Beach, Capistrano County Beach, Dana Point Harbor, Capistrano Bay District and Poche County Beach.
Closures remain in effect from the projection of El Moro Creek at Crystal Cove State Beach in Laguna Beach to the southernmost point of Dana Strands in Dana Point until the results of follow-up water quality monitoring meet acceptable standards.
As a reminder, a rain advisory is in effect for all of Orange County and bacteria levels in the ocean, bays and sloughs can be elevated for a period of at least 72 hours after the rain has ended.
