Authorities have identified a 19-year-old bicyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run in South Los Angeles Wednesday night.
Oscar Orlando Toledo, Jr. was struck around 9:40 p.m. near the intersection of South Normandie Avenue and West 47th Street, according the Los Angeles Police Department.
The cyclist was on 47th Street crossing Normandie Avenue when a car traveling southbound on Normandie Avenue hit him. Paramedics transported him in critical condition to a hospital where he died.
Thursday evening, family and friends gathered on the sidewalk, where candles, flowers, and messages written on a streetlamp post offered tributes to Toledo.
"He was such a hard worker," said his sister Izamar, 20. "He was going for his GED."
Toledo had been riding home after visiting his girlfriend, the family said. He had only a few blocks to go.
Police are looking for a vehicle described as either a red Toyota Corolla or a burgundy Pontiac, LAPD said.
Detectives have been studying security camera video gathered from nearby businesses.

In the stretch of Normandie were Toledo was struck, within a hundred feet there are two T-intersections where 47th Street takes a jog. In recent years, many roads in Los Angeles have been marked with "sharrows" lanes for cyclists, but not South Normandie.
A cycling commuter who stopped at the sidewalk memorial was asked if he ever had close calls with autos on Normandie. "Every day," he said as he rode off.
