3 Escape With Minor Injuries After Crash Sends Big Rig Onto Car

Three people escaped with minor injuries when a big rig landed on top of a car after crashing with a freight train in the City of Industry on Tuesday, officials said.

Union Pacific police said the 18-wheeler had failed to clear the tracks at Fairway and Walnut Drives as the train approached just before 3:20 p.m.

The impact sent the truck crashing into two nearby cars. Aerial footage captured by NewsChopper4 showed one of the cars partially underneath the big rig.

Three people suffered minor injuries in the wreck, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The driver told investigators a car had cut him off prior to the crash. Police said the driver would be cited.

CHP said the northbound lanes of Fairway Drive and Business Parkway would be closed until 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Union Pacific police and sheriff's deputies planned to conduct an operation on Wednesday at Valley Boulevard and Temple Crossing to cite drivers who stop on the train tracks during grid lock.

The operation will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., according to the Union Pacific Police Department.
