Burning Big Rig Blocks 5 Freeway in Burbank

Callers told the CHP a big rig with flat tires was on fire as it traveled in southbound freeway lanes in the San Fernando Valley

A burning semitrailer truck blocked traffic on a San Fernando Valley freeway Monday afternoon after California Highway Patrol officers received several drivers' reports of smoke coming from a big rig with flat tires.

At mid-day, the big rig was burning in a lane on the southbound side of the 5 Freeway near Hollywood Way.

The CHP initially received several calls of a big rig with flat tires and smoke coming from the trailer. CHP officers located the vehicle traveling on the 5 Freeway, but the driver "did not stop for a short period of time," said Sgt. Denise Joslin.

It was not immediately clear whether the driver was aware officers were attempting a traffic stop. Authorities are attempting to determine the contents of the trailer.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at about 1 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
