Birders Flock to San Diego for a Binoc-tacular Bash

Winter is renowned for its wing-watching possibilities, so don't miss out.

ARRIVING AT A BIRD FESTIVAL... like a bird might? Well, let's be real: It isn't going to happen if you're a human. Sure, you can catch a plane to the city holding the festival, so, yep, you'll be up in the air, like a beastie rocking a pair of wings might be. But how birds fly to a destination is just so, well, bird-like, for they get to alight upon trees and on the beach and soar over the ocean, if they please. Thus we bird-loving people must drive a car to the festival, or take a train, or catch a bus, all the while looking out the window at the feathery denizens gliding by the vehicles on the highway or the train tracks below. But once you're there? The bird-focused fun begins in earnest, even if you didn't get to soar alongside your favorite feathery superstars en route. The San Diego Bird Festival is a large-scale bird-in, and that it happens in wintertime feels just right, given that many of our great bird-watching to-dos do flock along the California coast in the colder months. The grab-those-binocs party is on...
