Blaze Forces Evacuations in Silverwood Lake Area

A fire scorched 20 acres of land on the north side of Highway 138, forcing evacuations in the Lake Silverwood area Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The fire, which broke out around 1:13 p.m., caused Highway 138 to close between Highway 173 and Old Mill Road and forced evacuations for Silverwood Campground, said the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

The fire was holding at 20 acres and was 25 percent contained around 6:30 p.m., according to the California Incident Information System.

Firefighters from San Bernardino County, San Bernardino National Forest and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection were responding, according to the system.
