Bodies of Two Females Found in Montecito Heights

The bodies of two females were found in a park in Montecito Heights Wednesday, police said.

The bodies were reported at 2:21 p.m. in the area of Mercury and Boundary avenues, according to Los Angeles police Officer Aareon Jefferson.

The two were found by a woman hiking with her dog near the back edge of Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, according to Capt. Martin Baeza of LAPD's Hollenbeck division.

The bodies did not appear to have been in the park long, Baeza said, and it was unclear if they were adults. He said it was not immediately clear how they died.

"So far we haven't identified any suspects we are just continuing to investigate," Sgt. Marlon Marrache said Wednesday evening.

Last year, police warned neighbors that a man had targeted three different women in the park.

In a January attack, he had groped a woman. In June, someone believed to be the same man exposed himself to another woman. In July, a woman was grabbed by a man with a knife, who then punched her in the face, according to an LAPD statement at the time.

Neighbors told NBC4 that similar warnings were issued as recently as three months ago in neighborhood fliers, alerting residents to a man who had been trying to lure girls to the area.

Parents of missing teenagers showed up to the park after seeing media reports of the female bodies found.

Each family wanted to talk with police, but investigators said that none of the families that showed up were related to the victims.

A neighborhood watch group patrols every night, and members said they hope that the victims aren't anyone they know.
