Simi Valley Brush Fire Fully Contained

The fire was held at 189 acres, according to fire officials.

A brush fire that scorched across Simi Valley, threatening hundreds of homes Friday afternoon was 100 percent contained overnight, fire officials said.

The so-called Rustic Fire was reported at 3:23 p.m. as a 4-acre brush fire in the 500 block of Rustic Hills Drive in the southern portion of Wood Ranch, according to Scott Dettore, of the Ventura County Fire Department.

The fire was held at 189 acres, according to Detorre.

Authorities on Friday urged residents to stay away from the area or shelter in place.

Resident Alyson Aronson saw flames right outside her home.

"It's just scary. All of a sudden I heard someone scream fire and I was just in my house. I had no clue," she said.

"I didn't even smell the smoke, to be honest, and I ran outside thinking one of my neighbors started a fire or something, and then, all of a sudden I looked up and there was all of the flames on the mountain."
