Buena Park police released dramatic video Monday of a hit-and-run that propelled a man into the air after he collided with the car’s windshield.
Surveillance video captured the incident, which went down on Campus Drive at Orangethorpe Avenue in Buena Park shortly after noon on Sunday, June 10.
"We're treating it as assault with a deadly weapon," said Cpl. Andy Luong of the Buena Park Police Department. "The vehicle being the weapon. Without the video, just a hit and run. Based on that surveillance video and witness statements, an assault."
In the video (below) released on YouTube by Buena Park Police, two people can be seen crossing the Campus Drive, a side street, when a vehicle travelling on Orangethorpe Avenue swerved out of the main road and directly into the victim, sending him into the air as he bounced off the windshield.
The other pedestrian, later identified as the victim's brother, runs after the vehicle, which fled the scene, leaving the victim rolling on the pavement.
Police said the injured man and his brother are not cooperating with authorities.
The vehicle is described as a gold-colored four door, possibly a Mitsubishi Galant, with tinted windows. A license plate number has not been released.

Police said the car has moderate damage to the passenger side windshield.
The victim, a 20-year-old man, suffered “significant, non-life threatening injuries” and was transported to the hospital.
Police described the driver as a thin Latino man with a female passenger, whose hair was tied up in a bun.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the crash may have been intentional, but police said it was not immediately known if the suspect and victim knew one another.
Neighbors said the victim had blood coming out of his mouth with scrapes and bruises on his arms.
"People these days need to take it easy," said neighbor Mona Cadavas. "Life is short. We need to treat each other nice."
