A driver is in custody after a pursuit that began Friday in Whittier when he drove through an area that was coned off for a crash investigation.

The driver went through the area marked with orange traffic cones at about 11 a.m. after a  three-car collision on Colima Road. The driver was not involved in the crash, but failed to stop as directed by officers, according to the CHP.

At 11:40 a.m., the pursuit entered the Orange area, where the driver made a U-turn on a rain-soaked surface street before three CHP units surrounded the SUV.

The driver continued between two of the cruisers after officers exited their vehicles. The pursued ended in Orange when officers executed a pursuit intervention technique, causing the vehicle to spin before boxing in the driver with their vehicles.

The male driver, the silver Honda CRV's lone occupant, was taken into custody near Chapman Avenue and Prospect Street (map). An emergency medical services team treated the man at the location.

Details regarding the man's injuries were not immediately available.
