Driver Killed After Crashing Into OC Home ID'd

A mother and two children were inside the home when the car barrelled through an outdoor wall

A driver who was killed Friday night after he smashed his car into a home in a gated Orange County community was identified as a 22-year-old Trabuco Canyon man, authorities said.

The crash happened about 7:40 p.m. Friday near Vista Del Verde and Cherry Hills Drive in Coto de Caza (map), according to Capt. Steve Concialdi, with the Orange County Fire Authority.

Concialdi said it apppears the dark gray Mazda that Franz Nazelny was driving jumped and cleared a wall, then collided with a home. The crash occurred just a half-mile from the home of his parents.

Nzaelny's family laid flowers at the crash site Saturday morning, but were too emotional for an interview.

Neighbors recalled the devastating crash.

"I feel really bad, I wish this would have never happened," one resident said. "He seemed like a really nice guy."

A family inside the home when a car barrelled into the outdoor wall was not injured in the crash.

"There was a mother, her 6-year-old son and her 3-year-old daughter that were inside just watching TV at the time," Concialdi said. "They heard a terrible crash, and they came out and they witnessed this."

Investigators believe Nazelny was speeding when the Mazda crashed.

Alcohol was not thought to be a factor for the fatal accident, officials said.
