Celebrate Hanukkah: ‘8 Nights' in Wine Country

A number of restaurants will offer delicious Hanukkah meals beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

A BEAUTIFUL HANUKKAH FOOD FEST... may boast oodles of appetizing elements, from a savory, well-spiced brisket to latkes dolloped with just the perfect amount of tart sour cream to handmade chocolate gelt, the kind that is sweet but not too sweet (meaning you'll want to eat a dozen, at least). Those are just a few of the might-be-seen elements, though so many chefs, both in restaurants and at home, walk the gustatory byways that they like best, all while honoring the spirit of the holiday. But, quite often, a food festival will last for one day, or maybe two, if there's a weekend involved, and then that's it: The Hanukkah supping has come to an end, at least festival-wise. The observance does, of course, happen over eight important nights, which all leads to this: If a food-focused area wanted to fill a week plus a night beyond that with all sorts of suppers and wines, well, they should and could and would. And...

SANTA BARBARA WINE COUNTRY... is doing just that, beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 12. "8 Nights" is described as an "...eight-day foodie happening," and it will begin and continue at PICO in Los Alamos, with a final two-night visit to K'Syrah Catering & Events in Solvang. A fresh dish'll debut each of the PICO nights, one that has Hanukkah inspiration aplenty, and a bit something more: A clue as to what the foodstuffs will be at the "...final night's seated, eight-course dinner at K'Syrah." As each dish rolls out at PICO, it is "orderable," until, by night six, all of the half dozen Hanukkah dishes will be available for order to anyone who stops in for dinner.

IT'S A SWEET AND DIFFERENT WAY... to approach the Festival of Light, though celebratory dinners are one of the many meaningful hearts of the celebration. Oh, and on Monday night, the seventh night, at K'Syrah? Look for "Hanukkah-inspired plates in a passed hors d'oeuvres format." So much deliciousness, and goodness, and camaraderie, and cuisine-amazing inventiveness, all in Solvang and Los Alamos, two strong regional leaders on the strong food-fun scene.
