Celebrate Ringo Starr's Birthday With Ringo Starr

Make for Capitol Records for a Peace & Love salute.

What are your birthday traditions?

Some of us might jump in a swimming pool, fully clothed. Some of us run a mile, or a marathon. Some of us enjoy our favorite cake and still others watch a favorite film or see a favorite person.

Nice things, all. Here's another tradition which is pretty uplifting, and one that involves multiple people: Ringo Starr -- yep, we're about to type "that Ringo Starr" right here -- likes to pause on his birthday to spread a message that is dear to his heart, one that can succinctly be summarized in two meaningful words: peace & love.

Of course, they're big concepts, so saying "succinctly summarized" there should no way diminish the breadth or reach of those two words. Mr. Starr's reach, and his positive message, is wide indeed, and will grow notably vast on Monday, July 7 when he celebrates peace & love, and his 74th birthday, in front of the Capitol Records building in Hollywood.

Time? The peace & love salute will go down at noon. Invite? Anyone may join. The aim of the day? Sharing the peace via social media and in person. That means if you can't make it to Hollywood, you can still pause to focus on matters of community, connection, fellowship, and peace.

Designer John Varvatos will be on hand to further that aim via the unveiling of "a very special collaboration in support of The Ringo Starr Peace & Love Fund," which the David Lynch Foundation oversees.

Mr. Starr takes this message seriously, and lightly, too, of course (this is Ringo we're talking about). It was the name of his recent Grammy Museum exhibit and he speaks often to it wherever he travels and performs.

Figure if you ever had a Beatles-themed birthday party as a kid -- so many people did, and still do -- it might be time to celebrate a Beatle birthday, with a side of hope and positivity.

Come together, indeed.
