3 Children Hurt After South LA Police Chase Results in Crash

Though all four patients were taken to a hospital, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

A vehicle being chased by officers slammed into a car in South Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon, injuring four people, three of them children under 10, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 1:55 p.m. in the 1300 block of West 59th Place, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Though all four patients were taken to a hospital, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, she said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle with two males inside and one of them, who was armed with a gun, got out and ran, triggering a foot chase.

The fleeing suspect was picked up by the driver of a second vehicle and, while speeding from the scene, the car struck another uninvolved vehicle, LAPD Officer Tony Im said.

One of the suspects was taken into custody and two others remained at large, Im said.

A photographer at the scene of the collision said the civilians were in a compact car and the suspects in a black Infiniti.
