Chris Paul Gives Paul Pierce CPR as Clippers Lose to Nets in Double Overtime

Sean Kilpatrick scored a season-high 38 points, Doc Rivers was ejected and Paul Pierce needed CPR from teammate Chris Paul as the Brooklyn Nets overcame an 18-point deficit to shock the Los Angeles Clippers 127-22 in double overtime.

Things went berserk at the Barclays Center.

The bizarre game saw eight ties and seven lead changes as the Clippers hit game-tying three-pointers at the end of regulation and overtime to keep the game going.

"We lost respect for the game," head coach Doc Rivers told reporters after the game. "Sometime the basketball Gods will punish you and I think that's what happened tonight."

Pierce played a season-high 29 minutes in place of Blake Griffin, who was given the night off to rest, a surprising move considering the 10-time All-Star had only appeared in two previous games entering Tuesday.

Pierce showed signs of rust against his former team, shooting 1-of-7 from the field and scoring just five points, but it was a failed dunk attempt in the second half that had fans rolling out of their seats.

Paul and Pierce were running a two-on-one break with less than a minute remaining in the first half when the point guard delivered a beautiful behind-the-back pass to Pierce who was wide-open for the dunk.

His teammates rose from their seats ready to celebrate the 39-year-old's hops, but instead Pierce missed the dunk and fell flat on his back on the play. That's when Paul went over to resuscitate his teammate by performing CPR.

Paul on the other hand, did not need any lifesaving as he scored a team-high 26 points recording a double-double with 13 assists.

DeAndre Jordan had his first 20-20 game of the season as the Clippers big man finished with 21 points and 23 rebounds in the loss.

J.J. Redick had 18 points and Austin Rivers scored 15 off the bench including a nine-point flurry in under a minute in the second half.

Kilpatrick led Brooklyn with a career-best 38 points and 14 rebounds, including 20-points in the fourth quarter.

"That's on me," continued Rivers. "We let him go to his strong hand 120 times. That was frustrating."

Brook Lopez had 27 points including four-three pointers that helped seal the victory for the Nets.

Brooklyn was up by three with 13 seconds remaining in the game when Paul hit a three-pointer from the corner to send it into overtime at 107-107. It was the first overtime game of the season for the Clippers.

Things got wild and crazy in the final second of the overtime period as DeAndre Jordan was fouled on a dunk attempt with 19 second remaining in the game.

Jordan made one of the two free throws but Doc Rivers received a technical foul from the bench. Second later, Rivers received a second technical foul and was ejected from the game by referee Ken Mauer, prompting the coach to charge the court and be restrained by players.

"It was the damnedest tech to give at that time," Rivers said. "The referee [Mauer] was away from the play and didn't know what we were talking about. It wasn't even an argument."

Brooklyn would miss three of the next four free throws, giving the Clippers a final chance to tie the game, and Jamal Crawford delivered with a game-tying three-pointer that sent the game to double overtime, the first for L.A. since March 23, 2011.

Mike Woodson took over as coach four the second extra period, but by that time the Clippers were out of gas and were unable to finish the job as the Nets held on for the win thanks to Kilpatrick.

Players of the Game:

Sean Kilpatrick: Career-high 38 points.
DeAndre Jordan: 21 points and 23 rebounds.
Chris Paul: 26 points and 13 assists.

Three Takeaways:

1. Four!!! Los Angeles Clippers can proudly boast they have the top two players with the most four-point plays in NBA history after J.J. Redick converted the 27th of his career midway through the fourth quarter. Redick now ranks second all-time behind teammate Jamal Crawford (49)

2. The Kilpatrick Quarter: Brooklyn Nets guard Sean Kilpatrick caught fire in the fourth quarter as the undrafted sophomore out of Cincinnati scored 20 of his 38 points in the fourth quarter, as the Nets erased a 13-point fourth quarter deficit.

3. You Mad, Bro? Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers was ejected in the final seconds of the first overtime after he received back-to-back technical fouls from referee Ken Mauer. Rivers was heated and had to be restrained by players as he charged onto the court after Mauer.
