Citywide Super Adoption: Furry Love

Visit eight locations and find your family's new whiskery, tail-wagging member.

It's easy to fall hard for a hound or feline at a shelter, especially after your eyes meet theirs, and especially after they crawl into your lap, and especially after you nuzzle them and vow to take care of them forever and for always.

But the other steps to leaving with this little lovebug aren't always as clear or seemingly as easy as falling in love.

Best Friends Animal Society and Los Angeles Animal Services want to make those steps as simple and as money-saving as possible for prospective pet parents, and, to do so, both organizations are teaming up on one joyful, people-animal match-up of a weekend.

It's the Citywide Super Adoption, a major adopt-a-thon set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10. And while other large-scale adoption events are often centered around one spot, the "Citywide" in the name tells the tail — er, tale: There will be eight places to go meet your next furry family member.

The cost? Adoptions will be "free and discounted." Those eight locations? Head for Best Friends Pet Adoptions Center, NKLA Pet Adoption Center, and the Los Angeles Animal Services shelters (there are six in all).

As for those free adoptions? They'll cover cats at LA Animal Services (ages four months old and older) and cats at Best Friends and NKLA (ages six months old and older).

The discounted adoptions will start at $25 for dogs and kittens at Best Friends and head up to $51 for dog adoptions at the Los Angeles Animal Services shelters.

Will your new BFF be spayed and neutered? You bet. They'll also be rocking a microchip and their vaccinations, which means they can hop in your backseat, with an eagerness to check out their new domestic digs, ASAP.

Details? No need to chase your tail: Best Friends has the information on the 1000+ animals you'll meet over the second weekend in September (or, at least, you'll meet and love a good number of them).
