Coroner Identifies Man Shot Dead in East Los Angeles

Police pursued a car matching the description of the shooter's after finding a wounded man in the 4300 block of Whittier Boulevard.

Coroner's officials have released the name of a 30-year-old man killed in a shooting in East Los Angeles, which was also connected with a car chase that led to Downey, where five suspects were arrested.

The shooting victim was identified as Freddy Oros, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, which had no place of residence for Oros. Deputies responded about 12:30 a.m. Friday to the 4300 block of Whittier Boulevard and found Oros, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Deputy Dangelo Robinson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"Information was obtained that the suspect vehicle was possibly a green sedan," Robinson said. "Shortly thereafter, another shooting occurred near McBride (Avenue) and Telegraph (Road) in East Los Angeles The suspect vehicle (was) a green sedan." No one was injured in that shooting.

"About 40 minutes later, deputies observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop," Robinson said. "The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated."

The chase led onto the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway, and along the way, the suspects threw a firearm out of the car near the Washington Boulevard exit, Robinson said. "The pursuit continued, and (the car) exited at Garfield Avenue, where the vehicle struck a median and blew out a tire," Robinson said. The car went back onto the southbound 5 Freeway, exited on Paramount Boulevard in Downey, and stopped in the 9200 block of Samoline Avenue, where the five occupants were arrested, Robinson said. Among them were two females and three males.

Two of the suspects are juveniles. No names were released. The investigation was continuing, and anyone with information on the case was asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
