A crash involving a fire engine injured four firefighters and triggered a power outage in the Valley Village area early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
"At that point, the fire captain who sits in right passenger seat, reached over to get control of truck," Andy Neiman, LAPD, said.
The crash was reported around 1:55 a.m. in the 13700 block of W. Burbank Boulevard near Woodman Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
One firefighter was transported to a hospital in serious condition and released.
The crash downed a live power line which triggered a small fire at a nearby liquor store and caused a power outage affecting about 530 customers. Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes.
Fire officials said the crash occurred after a fire engineer driving LAFD Engine 102 had a medical emergency.
"As it's been reported to us, apparently the engineer was experiencing some type of medical emergency that resulted in him losing control of the fire engine which caused the accident. So, we're still trying to put those pieces together and figure out what happened to him," Neiman said.
The collision also damaged five cars and broke a power pole, scattering debris in the street.

Police shut down the intersection of W. Burbank Boulevard and Woodman Avenue until further notice.
All of the injured firefighters were released from the hospital.
"A series of loud explosions it sounded like, transformers all blew up down the street," Eman Yazdchi, a Sherman Oaks resident, said.
