Crossing Guard Killed in 3-Car Crash Near Elementary School in Simi Valley

A 62-year-old crossing guard was killed after being struck by a vehicle in a three-car crash near Arroyo Elementary School in Simi Valley Tuesday, the Simi Valley Police Department said.

The collision occurred at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of Los Angeles Avenue and Socrates Avenue, with one of the three vehicles involved striking the crossing guard, per the SVPD.

The crossing guard was taken to a hospital and died a short time later, according to police.

"The fact that someone lost their life today is just horrible," Jack Finch, the public information officer for the Simi Valley Unified School District said in a statement. "We will have counselors available tomorrow for children and staff. We strongly want to remind everyone to drive safely in and around our schools."

Finch added, "As you may know, we had a crossing guard accident two months ago. These crossing guards are there keeping our children safe, and they need to be safe."

The identity of the crossing guard struck and killed by the vehicle Tuesday was not immediately revealed, but authorities said no one else was injured in the three-car crash.
