A 25-year-old drunken driving suspect led deputies on a chase from Hawaiian Gardens to Fullerton early Tuesday, shooting sparks from his car as he drove on the rim of a flattened tire.

The chase began around 1:50 a.m. in the area of Centralia Avenue and Norwalk Boulevard, said Lt. Eric Lindblom of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lakewood Station.

The suspect's vehicle broke down and came to a stop on Orangethorpe Avenue near Euclid Street in Fullerton, where he was taken into custody, Lindblom said.

The chase took place over surface streets and lasted about 10 minutes, he said.

As the moments from eight recent chases captured here illustrate, car chases defy logic and common sense, putting the police and the public at risk.
