Body of Slain Woman Found in Park Identified

One of the two bodies found at a park in Montecito Heights has been identified as that of 19-year-old Gabriela Calzada, coroner's officials said.

The deaths of two young women whose bodies were found in a park in Montecito Heights were being investigated as homicides. The remains of the second body were not identified.

Police said Calzada was reported missing around 9 p.m. Wednesday, hours after her body was found. Calzada had not been seen since Tuesday night along with a 17-year-old friend.

Police said they did not identify the second victim because she was a minor.

The bodies were found about 2:20 p.m. Wednesday near Mercury and Boundary avenues, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The bodies were found along a walking path through Ernest E. Debs Regional Park.

Los Angeles police Officer Aareon Jefferson said detectives have classified the deaths as homicides.

Neighbors reported hearing strange noises in the area Wednesday night.

A woman walking her dog came upon the bodies, which were on the side of a hill, and called police, LAPD Officer Matthew Ludwig said Wednesday.

They did not appear to have been there long, Ludwig said.

Los Angeles police Capt. Martin Baeza told the Los Angeles Times the women were found fully clothed about 300 yards from the street, and did not appear to have been sexually assaulted. He declined to comment on whether police found obvious signs of trauma on the bodies.

Police said they had no suspects and no one was in custody.
