Demonstrators Take to Streets to Protest Police Actions in LA, NYC and Ferguson

Marchers walked from LAPD headquarters to South LA, where police fatally shot a mentally ill black man.

Demonstrators took to the streets of Los Angeles on Friday to protest the killing of an unarmed black man by LAPD officers and other police actions in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City.

The protesters gathered at LAPD headquarters and marched to the site where Ezell Ford was killed by LAPD officers in South LA on Aug. 11.

"I think a lot of the backlash was the fact that an officer using an illegal move of excessive force," said demonstrator Melissa Rae Duprey. "These are crimes against humanity."

Shauna Bigby and her friends brought their daughters to the march on Friday so "they see there's some hope for a solution to the injustice."

At one point during the peaceful march, protesters laid down on the street to simulate dying, an action being taken performed at other demonstrations around the country.

The demonstration comes after a Staten Island grand jury decision in the Eric Garner chokehold death case prompted outrage and protests across New York City and the nation.

It also comes after national protests over the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown, 18, who was shot by an officer in Missouri.
