Deputies Injured While Responding to Protest in Compton

Two deputies were recovering Wednesday from minor injuries suffered when they responded to a protest outside a Compton beauty supply shop and got into a fight with some suspects.

The deputies responded about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday to a reported disturbance at the shop in a strip mall in the area of Central Avenue and Alondra Boulevard where protesters had gathered, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The protesters had gathered at the business to urge people not to patronize the shop because of a dispute that had occurred there two weeks ago, the sheriff's department reported.

Three protesters were detained and the deputies were taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries that were reported to be minor, according to the sheriff's department.

A protester said deputies used a taser on one man.

"They tasered him over numerous times, he was already on the ground," protester Diniceia Henderson told NBC4. "That's not fair. We came out in peace."

The protest drew a massive response by sheriff's personnel.
