An hourslong standoff that started Saturday night in Palmdale resulted in a deputy-involved shooting and left one man dead Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
The identity of the man was not immediately released.
Deputies responded to a service call at 9:15 p.m. for "assault with a deadly weapon" on Saturday in the 4000 block of Karling Place, and the deputy-involved shooting transpired, the department said.
When deputies arrived to the scene, they attempted to make contact with the man who was believed to be hiding inside a trailer. The man said he would not come out and that he was armed, according a LASD news release.
Shortly after, the man appeared from the trailer and pointed a weapon at deputies, according to the LASD. A deputy fired, but it was unclear if the baricaded man shot first, the LASD said.
Authorities said the man fled back into the trailer and barricaded himself inside, prompting a standoff that lasted into the early morning hours on Sunday.
The LASD Special Enforcement Bureau and Crisis Negotiation units arrived on the scene of the barricaded man, according to the news release. There were several unsuccessful attempts to establish contact with the man.

A SEB diversionary action eventually brought the man out of the trailer where a second shootout erupted, authorities said. When authorities entered the trailer, the man was found dead after suffering gunshot wounds, according to the LASD news release.
The LASD said no deputies were struck by gunfire.
