Detectives Investigate Possible Beating Death in Industry

Man's body was found in the parking lot of a near-empty business complex just before dawn

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the possible beating death of a man found in the parking lot of a business complex in the City of Industry.

A truck driver who was just starting his shift discovered the man’s body just before 6 a.m. in the mostly empty center in the 13900 block of Valley Boulevard.

"And I noticed there was a body lying right down there,” Miguel Fernandez said. "I stood there for a sec to see if he was breathing, he wasn't breathing."

Fernandez said it appeared the man had been beaten, and hit with something on his head.

Homicide detectives said the cause of death will be determined later by the coroner.

Local business owner Javier Dame said there is a large homeless population that frequents the area, and speculated the victim may have been transient.

Dame described the victim as a white male between 50 and 60 years of age. He also said it appeared the victim had been beaten.

"It's a sad day on Valley Boulevard in the City of Industry... a sad day,” he said.
