Dodgers Defeat Tigers, 8-5, for their 12th Interleague Win in a Row

Los Angeles scored eight runs on 12 hits, none of which was a home run, as the Dodgers defeated the Detroit Tigers, 8-5, for their fifth consecutive win on Friday night at Comerica Park.

Death by a thousand cuts.

Los Angeles scored eight runs on 12 hits, none of which was a home run, as the Dodgers defeated the Detroit Tigers, 8-5, for their fifth consecutive win on Friday night at Comerica Park.

The Dodgers lead the league in home runs, but didn't require a single one on Friday as they showed their ability to beat you in many ways, this time with singles and doubles as eight of their nine batters in the lineup recorded at least one hit.

Chris Taylor led the way with a season-high four hits, finishing the game, 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored as he improved his batting average to .310 on the season.

"I've been seeing the ball well," Taylor told Alanna Rizzo of SportsNetLA after the game. "He [Zimmerman] left some pitches over the middle of the plate and I was able to turn on them."

Corey Seager went 1-for-4 with three RBI as has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, and is batting .408 with three doubles, a home run and nine RBI since August 3.

Joc Pederson got off the snide with an RBI double in the top of the fourth inning. Pederson was 1-for-44 since July 29 before the much-needed double.

Adrian Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored in his return from the 60-day disabled list.

Gonzalez was reinstated from the DL before the game, and has not played since June 11.

"It felt good. My swing felt right," Gonzalez said of his return." I took the swings I wanted to take. Even the outs, I felt good about them. I'm happy with the way everything went today."

Following the game, Gonzalez finds himself just three hits shy of 2,000 hits for his career, as he looks to become just the seventh Dodger in Los Angeles franchise history to reach the milestone.

Playing in his 100th career game, Cody Bellinger was the only Dodger in the starting lineup not to record a hit, finishing 0-for-3 with two walks in the game.

The Dodgers are 77-23 in those games, the most wins ever by a non-pitcher since 1913.

Justin Upton hit a pair of homers for the Tigers.

Upton finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored as all three of his hits tipped of Dodger gloves on defensive.

After missing a home run by mere inches in his first at-bat, Upton got an assist from left fielder Cody Bellinger in the bottom of the third as the ball went in-and-out of his glove for the home run.

Victor Martinez also homered for the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Rich Hill earned the victory, and remains unbeaten in his last eight starts as the left-hander allowed three runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings.

"Overall it was great to get the win," said Hill after the game. "That was the biggest thing tonight. Guys played really well and we hit the ball really well. I need to execute better."

Hill (9-4) is a perfect 5-0 with a 2.14 ERA in his last eight starts since July 1.

Hill was no stranger to the Detroit-area as the 37-year-old attended college at nearby University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 2001-2002. Coincidentally, it was Michigan Wolverines night at Comerica Park on Friday.

Jordan Zimmerman (7-10) took the loss, as he got hit hard again. The former Washington Nationals star, allowed seven runs on 10 hits with two walks and five strikeouts in five and 1/3 innings of work.

Kenley Jansen struggled out of the bullpen in a non-save situation.

After surrendering the second home run of the game to Upton, he followed up with back-to-back singles allowed to Cabrera and Castellanos before striking out the tying run in Martinez and James McCann to end the game.

Despite his struggles, Jansen still has 32 saves this season, and has recorded 30 or more saves in four consecutive seasons, the only closer in baseball to accomplish that feat.

L.A. has won 20 of their last 23 games, and are riding a 12-game winning streak against American League teams, a win tomorrow, and they will tie the Miami Marlins all-time record of 13 straight wins in Interleague play.

Overall, the Dodgers are an MLB-best 15-3 in Interleague play this season, with just two more games left to play this weekend.

The Dodgers have won 37 consecutive games in which they've scored four runs or more, the fourth longest streak in MLB history.

Friday was the Dodgers 39th come from behind victory this season.
