A service dog that was inside an Army veteran's car when it was stolen over the weekend in Downey was found safe in Anaheim Tuesday and reunited with her owner.
"Marcee is home!!!!!!'' Apolonio E. Munoz III announced on his Facebook page early Tuesday afternoon.
"I got a call not too long ago from Downey PD that she was found by someone in Anaheim, that she was seen in a local park,'' he wrote. "They asked me to come by the station and see if this was Marcee. I get there and ... she was excited to see me. She's now home safe in her bed, won't leave my side and the roommate's dog is snuggled up with her giving her lots of attention and kisses.''
Munoz, 34, said earlier that his Honda Civic was stolen Saturday night from an Arco gas station in the 10800 block of Lakewood Boulevard, and Marcee -- a 10-year-old pit bull mix -- was inside. Marcee was in training to be a service dog helping Munoz, who served in the Iraq war, cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Munoz thanked everyone who contributed to Marcee's recovery.
"Now that she's home, life can start to normalize and hopefully soon my car will also be found,'' he wrote.
Police said this afternoon that the car had been found in Norwalk, but whoever took the red 2012 Civic remains at large.

Munoz said his cell phone was also in the vehicle, but it was not immediately clear if it was recovered.
