Driver-Shot-and-Killed-near-I-5-Freeway-in-East-L-A

The gunman remains at large, and a second person inside the car was not injured.

A driver was shot and killed near a freeway exit in East Los Angeles Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The incident initially was reported as a traffic accident.

“Deputies responded to the location here believing there had been a traffic collision,” said L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. Eddie Hernandez. “When they arrived on scene they saw that the driver of the vehicle had been shot,” said Lt. Hernandez.

The victim crashed his car near the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Ditman Avenue at around 2 a.m. He died at the scene.

Another person who was in the car with the victim is being questioned by investigators, said Lt. Hernandez.

The crash happened near the Ditman Avenue exit of the southbound Santa Ana (5) freeway, and the California Highway Patrol has called a SigAlert and shut down that offramp until 7 a.m.
