The family of a young woman blamed for a deadly collision Thursday said she may have suffered a medical condition that caused her to run a stop sign.
Sgt. Eric Metten, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, says the 18-year-old driver of a blue Honda Civic denied medical treatment on the scene.
Metten added that the young woman ran a stop sign along 50th Street East in Lancaster before plowing in to a Silver Toyota Corolla. Both occupants of the Corolla died.
"That was my father taking his friend to a doctor's appointment," said Rafael Dimas Jr.
Dimas' father, Rafael Dimas Sr. turned 67 two weeks ago.
"He came here from El Salvador. He was a bus driver in his home country," Dimas said. "I can't believe it? Why?"
Dimas leaves behind three children and 16 grandchildren.

Investigators said the three young adults inside of the Civic are expected to be OK. Investigators were trying to figure out what prompted the crash.
"Was the driver texting? Did she suffer a medical condition or was this just an accident?" Metten said.
No charges have been filed.
